Learning and Teaching

Our Learning in Practice

At St Canice’s, we recognise that each student is different and we offer diversity in our learning and teaching. We constantly want to challenge our students, while recognising that they all learn differently and at different paces.

Our school encourages innovative and varied means of learning, that enriches the curriculum and brings our students face-to-face with authentic learning experiences. These experiences include attending expos, interacting with experts, going on excursions to other cities, museums, farms and so on.

In addition to Religious Education, our teachers follow the guidelines as set out by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), covering all six key areas of the curriculum. The key learning areas are as follows:

Religious Education

A core part of the curriculum, Religious Education provides many opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith. It supports regular attendance at Mass, the Sacramental program for Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation conducted by the Parish (Years 3 to 6), pastoral care programs, charitable works, and religious music and art.

Our Religious Education program, Sharing Our Story, encourages our students to come to know Jesus and their Catholic heritage. We develop in them a keen love for God, themselves, others, and their world. The Angelus is said daily as a whole school, and we offer a calendar of liturgical celebrations.
