The school community of St Canice’s Primary, Katoomba showed off their artistic talents at the recent Sculptures at School exhibition.
The annual event is a fundraising activity to support the St Vincent de Paul Society as well as engage the school community in the creative arts.
The day kicked off with a grand opening art expo for students and families. Students from the St Canice’s String Ensemble, Choir and Drama group performed at the event which also included a wonderful exhibition of sculptural and written work created by students.
This year, St Canice’s also held a photography competition open to all members of the school community. Entrants were challenged with capturing their interpretation of the theme ‘Save our trees’ with photos judged on their originality, composition and interest.
School Principal, Mark Geerligs said the event was a great success.
"This whole school event links writing with the arts. Audience and purpose is a key to authentic engagement,” Mr Geerligs said.
“We had 72 images entered in this year’s competition and were able to raise a significant amount for our fundraising initiative.”
“Every year the Sculptures at School event gets better and better and captures the creative talents of our entire school community,” he said.
